Teamsters vs. Amazon: The status of the latest collective action of the Amazon Labor Union in New York and Staten Island, and an update on Smalls’ actions
Sean O’Brien, general president of the Teamsters, said in a statement that “Amazon is a corporate bully and will have to answer” to the organization.
The Amazon Labor Union, after its victory in Staten Island, held two other elections in New York but lost in both of them. Chris Smalls, the group’s leader who was fired from Amazon after staging a walk out, had argued that only a small grassroots effort could organize his warehouse.
Workers at the Alabama warehouse of Amazon are waiting to hear if they will be eligible for a third union election. The most recent vote, which has remained too close to call since 2022, is being reviewed in a legal hearing expected to last most of the summer.
